My Top 5 Event Comics

Hey Guys From Planet – M and this week with have another Top list, but this time it’s a Top 5, we’re going to be talking about something more related to comics. This week I’ll be giving you a Top 5 list of comics that have rocked the entirety of their respective universes, this week is my Top 5 Event Comics.

Also if you do not like any of the listings of this week’s list than that is alright it is based upon my own personal opinion, also if you have suggestions for future lists or know of any event comics that you think should have been on the list than please leave them in the comments below.

5: Infinite Crisis

Why: Infinite Crisis is a direct sequel to Crisis on Infinite Earth’s written by Geoff Johns, the story borrows many elements (including artistic elements) from the original comic and builds as a countdown to destruction and race against time kind of story, it’s a good story, but I will admit that it is a heavily flawed story.

It writes many characters out of character, especially Wonder Woman (since Geoff Johns really can’t write her) who is shown and is told that she doesn’t belong and isn’t even human, there is a lot of build up to it which also requires one to read several other events in order to understand the main story and where this story seeks to say what is wrong with comics at the time it revels in all of those things that the comic says are wrong such as killing off characters without reason and probably the biggest fault was where they killed off the original Superman of Earth 2 and have the story end with his killer swearing he would kill again ending the story on a dark tone whereas the origin Crisis ended on a lighter tone showing that the world may have changed, but it has lead the way to a brighter future.

But for all of the faults that were in this story there were a few good points, such as where they made Superboy Prime the villain, because it made his story more of a cautionary tale on how toxic Nostalgia can be where he was willing to sacrifice everything (both good and bad) about the current universe just to bring back his past and intern sacrifice everyone else’s future, don’t get me wrong later down the line they made him a joke, but the message was still there. Also this story allowed the DC universe to get back to its roots after stories like Cry for Justice and Identity Crisis messed it up.

4: House of M

Why: House of M is a good story mostly because it is both an event while also a “what if” story that explores the idea of what if mutants were the majority and everyone got what they wanted. It’s a good story when everyone realises that the universe is the creation of a mentally unstable Scarlett Witch, the art work is good the story sets up a lot of interesting storylines down the line for the X-Men and the Avengers and I can honestly say that this was probably when Marvel was firing on all cylinders with its comics.

I will admit that my only problem with the comic is the ending, basically the Scarlett Witch as a way to spite Magneto decimates the mutant population by 90% and when the Avengers find out and when one of members asks Captain America whether or not they should help he basically “it’s not our problem”, even though this would have never happened if Cap and the Avengers hadn’t of agreed to suppress The Scarlett Witch’s memory.

This is what lead her to commit these acts, just because Wanda was a mutant doesn’t mean her actions towards the mutant community wasn’t something they shouldn’t respond to as this would have never happened to the X-Men if it weren’t for the Avengers, so they have more cause then any to get involve and start helping them.

3: The Infinity Gauntlet

Why: This is one of the few Marvel Events that I actually like mostly because it gives a great focus on the villain of the story and pathos while giving the heroes a tremendous threat to combat, all while it was properly built up to and had the artwork of George Perez for the first few issues to give it an epic sense of scale.

2: Secret Wars (2015)

Why: Jonathan Hickman was probably the best writer to put in charge of this epic story, not only is he good at building up a saga that comes full circle, but he doesn’t sacrifice character development in order to do, throughout his run of Avengers, New Avengers and Avengers world we built up to this event that would end the Marvel Universe and along the way characters were tested, rules and friendships were broken all while the end of the world was heading their way.

The story is written well as well as it brings together various parts of the Marvel Multiverse, a group from the main universe and the art work by Esad Ribic allows scale, but also gives personality to the various characters. This is Marvel story telling at its best and hopefully someday Marvel can write events like this again.

1: Crisis on Infinite Earths By Marv Wolfman and George Perez

Why: What to say about this comic other than monumentally epic, Crisis on Infinite earths is a story that stretches all across the DC Universe, introducing new characters and giving many beloved characters a good send off, nothing is done without reason and the story is the gold standard for how a universe changing event should be written and the artwork by George Perez has expression, scale and creativity in every page, truly Crisis on Infinite Earths is the Event Comic you should read.

And that’s my Top 5 Event Comics, if there were any you think should have been on the list, please them in the comments down below, Thank You For Reading.
