Hey guys from Planet-M, last week I did a list of My Top 10 Live Action Shows based on comics and for this week I’ve decided to do another based around the animated media, it will be the same as last week, I will give you the show and my reasons why.

This list is based on my own personal opinion and if you don’t like any of the shows that are listed than that is alright, now let’s gets started on my Top 10 Animated Shows Based on Comics.
10: Young Justice

Why: What can I say, the animation and character designs are good, the show allows for many of the characters to have development and it feels like a mix between super heroes and black ops, I’m glad the show is coming back and I can’t wait to see the third season.
9: Spectacular Spiderman

Why: This show did a good job at showing Spiderman’s earlier days as a super hero along with the emotional struggles, money problems and all while he’s still in high school, not only does Spiderman get proper development, but so does the supporting cast of his life and even the villains, like Sandman, Eddie Brock’s Venom and Green Goblin, it really felt like Stan Lee and Steve Ditko’s original comics in animation.
8: TMNT (2003)

Why: If you’re a ninja turtles fan, then I recommend that you watch this series. It combines some of the best aspects of the Teenage Mutant Ninja turtles from the light hearted humour, characterisation and one off adventures of the 1987 series to the dark storytelling, action and original origin of the first comics. This was the series that mirage studio (Eastman and Laird) had more creative control over, so it was still light-hearted and fun, but was allowed to be dark now and then when the story called for it, each season has some one off episodes, but there is always an overall story that develops the characters and that is what really makes this series good as it also builds its own universe.
7: Generator Rex (it’s based on an image comic called M. Rex)

Why: The premise of this show is that a catastrophic event has spread nanites across the world which are causing some people to mutate and develop powers, but some mutate into monsters that can threaten the world, no one knows what caused the even or who made the nanites, but it all centres around a young man called Rex who has no memory of his past, not only can he control his nanites to the point where he can create weapons from them, but he can also cure people of their mutations.
This show was very interesting, it was one of those shows that weren’t afraid to go to dark or have mature themes like Justice League or Batman, but it was also able to keep light hearted in some cases, the characters are likeable and the story around Rex’s past is what kept me interested when watching the show, one of the best parts though is the world building as the world does build a bit of a culture around the nanites between the government trying to preserve the human race to underground mutant crime organisations and entire cities closed off from the outside world, when watching it I thought it would have been better suited for Adult Swim or MTV than Cartoon Network.
6: Wolverine and the X-Men

Why: This series really felt like the fate of world was on the line and the X-men were the only ones who could save it, Steve Blum as the voice of Logan was spot on, the characters were well developed with a story that was much like Days of Future Past (only it’s the entire series) and the animation was fast paced with good character designs, the only problem that I have is that this show was good and it only went on for 1 season, seriously over the years it feels like Marvel has really dropped the ball when it comes to their animated shows.
5: Teen Titans the Original Series (Not Go)

Why: To start off this show was great in terms of its animation, it was like a mix between western style animation and anime, allowing for action and comedic moments to really work, the shows is just really fun to watch and Ron Perlman’s Slade (Deathstroke) was one of the best characters in the show, he was terrifying, serious and a genius tactician, this series was fun, action packed and always had my attention.
4: Spawn

Why: This is probably the best adaptation of Todd McFarlane’s comic, it’s very mature and it doesn’t hold back on the dark and graphic violence that the original comic was known for, but other than that what kept me invested was Spawn himself, his journey of realisation and then wanting his humanity back are the best parts of the show. The show is brilliantly animated, showing the dark and gritty world that he lives in and Keith David as Spawn brings a haunting humanity to the character.
3: Spiderman the Animated Series

Why: I will admit that this series can a bit too fast spaced, but it does a good job at adapting stories from the comics, portraying Spiderman as Spiderman (unlike some shows) and giving him a likeable cast of characters and that includes the villains, one of my favourite characters in this series will always the Kingpin as he is both a refined man and a powerful crime boss.
2: X-Men the Animated Series

Why: This series is probably the best X-men series, its colourful, it’s full of action and it does a good job at adapting Chris Claremont’s stories (even though they have to make a few changes). I will admit that not every character is done well in this series, but the show overall is still a good watch and the theme song will always be cool.
1: Justice League/Justice League Unlimited

Why: Yep this is the Number 1, why? Because this show has it all, the best Batman (Kevin Conroy)along with a cast of some of the best actors, engaging storylines, a focus on the minor characters in the DC Universe and ending that made it all worthwhile. This show never felt like it was pandering, it did things its own style and it remained consistent till the finale, this show is not just one of the best DC shows, but is the definitive standard of the Justice League.
And that’s it for this week, I hope you liked the Top 10’s and if there were some shows that you think should be on the list or if you have idea for future lists then please write them in the comments down below, Thank You For Reading.
