5 Reasons Why I'm Interested In Thor: Ragnarok

It’s good to be back on Planet-M and this week I’ll be talking about a film that has got everybody interested in the MCU this year, Thor Ragnarok. So since the popular film is only a few weeks a way I’ve decided to put together a blog where I will be going over 5 reasons why I’m interested in it.

Just a reminder that these points are based on my own personal opinion and if you feel like I left any important points about the film out then please leave them in the comments below, also some points below may contain spoilers on certain parts of the movie like who is involved and so forth.

5: The ending may lead into infinity war

Why: Now this one is more based on my own personal theory about the films ending, but I thought since it is the last film to feature some of the original characters of the MCU and the only film afterwards will be Black Panther’s solo film I thought the end credits of Thor: Ragnarok may take place just before or at the start of infinity war with Asgard being laid under siege by Thanos.

This is because from what I’ve seen in the trailer for Thor: Ragnarok we don’t see Asgard destroyed, but we do see it heavily damaged, so by the end credits that may be the perfect time for Thanos to strike and take the Tesseract while Asgard barely has any defences, the MCU has been known to put end credits scenes a few years ahead such as in Captain America: The Winter Solider with the Maximoff Twins being revealed or Guardians Of The Galaxy 2 with Teenage Groot, it’s all just a theory, but that (to me) would probably be the best way to utilise the end credits scene while at the same set-up the hype for infinity which would be only a year away.

4: It truly feels like a Thor movie

Why: Now when it comes to the Thor movies I’ve just found them ok, the first Thor was a good look into Thor’s character and Loki’s and the avengers did a good at expanding on both of their characters, but Thor: The Dark World really felt more like filler or a space occupier than a Thor film, yes in The Dark World we got to see a bit more of Asgard, a few of the nine realms, but only a few Glimpses here and there.

Both Thor films were able to capture the characters correctly, but they never truly immersed us in their world as the final battles or many other scenes would take the majority of time on earth, but with Thor: Ragnarok we get to see more of the cosmic aspect as Thor is stranded on an alien world and fighting alien gladiators from the pages of Marvel comics while interacting with more characters from his own world, we are going to see more of the cosmic background instead of being stuck on earth.

I know that Marvel has a large cosmos to explore and Thor is usually associated with it, so wouldn’t it be good to have more than the Guardians of the Galaxy exploring it, because it feels like they have not been using the Thor films to their true potential and Marvel has plenty more earthbound heroes to tell earthbound stories with, but they only have a few to tell the cosmic stories with. Taika Waititi has described Thor: Ragnarok as a Road trip movie so let’s hope we get to see more of the sights along the way.

3: The Visuals

Why: Now for one of my favourite points, the visuals, a few months ago I watched a video called “Why do Marvel’s Movies look kind of Ugly?” where in it explains that many of the Marvel films can come off as bland and lack in colour and I have to agree with that, I saw this with Marvel’s Dr Strange, in the comics his world is vibrant and full of all sorts of colour, but the film version’s filter was dark, bland and any brighter colour was blurred.

This is why I like films like Guardians of the Galaxy 2 and I can’t wait to see Thor: Ragnarok they’re vibrant and full of colour, in Thor: Ragnarok’s trailer you can see that much of the backgrounds and overall designs of the creatures are somewhat based on Jack Kirby’s designs in the Thor series and in the trailer itself you can see Jack Kirby’s Artwork hung in the background.

2: Planet Hulk

Why: One of my favourite storylines from the Marvel Universe is Greg Pak’s Planet Hulk where the Hulk is trapped on alien world and forced to fight as a gladiator for the amusement of a ruler with a god complex, now for Thor: Ragnarok you can see that they are using the basis of this story in order to get the Hulk involved so he and Thor can team up and take down the villains and honestly it works in this because it allows them to bring in the cosmic aspect of the MCU while at the same time have the hulk on screen.

1: The Stakes have been raised for the main characters

Why: What I like most of all about this film is that this truly feels like the end of Thor’s trilogy and its being done in the best way possible, they’ve put Thor in a situation where he needs help, where he is now at his most vulnerable, he has no hammer, he is up against a goddess who seeks to bring about the end of Asgard and has the power to do it and everyone he knows is scattered to the winds as he fights his way back home, everything we know about Thor is now on the line in this, so we have a reason to be interested in where he goes and what he does and I can’t wait to see this story take place.

And with that I bid you all farewell for another week. I hope you have enjoyed this week’s blog and if you have any suggestions for future blogs please leave them in the comments below, Thank You for Reading.
