My Top 10 Best Power Ranger Theme Songs
Hey guys from Planet-M. Today I'm going to do something a little different for the site, a top 10 list. Now this is usually something I wouldn't do as we all know of Watchmojo, but I thought I'd try something different and hopefully if you all like this then I will try to do more top 10 lists that you all suggest for the site, but just to clarify this first list is based on my own opinion and if you feel differently about what I've put down then feel free to tell me in the comments section below or let me know on Facebook or Twitter.
One more thing the reason I started the list on this subject was mostly because of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Movie, I haven't seen it yet because of work and I'm going to buy it when it comes out on Blu-ray and one of things I'm hoping this film doesn't do is butcher the theme song like in the Ghostbusters remake.
I think the film might do well on the theme since Power Rangers has been known to produce some pretty good theme songs for its franchise, so let's get started on my Top 10 list of the best Power Ranger Theme songs.
10: Dino Charge
Why?: This is probably one of the best themes from the Neo-Saban era so far, yeah it's also ripping of the original series' song and some of the lyrics of Megaforce, but it's got its own original lyrics and the guy singing it is definitely putting effort into it.
9: Time Force
Why?: With Time Force you've obviously got a Sci-Fi theme, but its problem is the fact that before the instrumental solo you've got a monotone singer who's vocal performance doesn't really go with the instrumental performance in the background, the only thing that really saves this theme is the instrumental solo near the end.
8: Wild Force
Why?: Wild Force's Theme has a hard rock feel as most Power Ranger themes, but all though this isn't a Ron Wasserman theme (the original Power Ranger theme composer) it really feels like one, its full of energy and the lyrics really outline the goal of this specific series.
7: Turbo
Why?: Turbo is a really good theme, in fact it was actually better then the first half of its series, the strong grunge feel at the start helps with the car theme in the series as it sounds like a racing engine starting up and the instrumental affirmation of the original "Go Go Power Ranger" really helps things along.
6: SPD
Why?: SPD was in fact a Ron Wasserman theme and like most is filled with rock, but the guitar is assisted by the sound of a police siren in the background and the lyrics that give affirmation to the Space police theme as near the finish the lyrics spell out what SPD stands for, Space Patrol Delta.
5: Lost Galaxy
Why?: This one is in the middle mostly because I really don't know how to feel about it, I like it, but I can't really get into the lyrics of the song, with most power ranger themes that came before it we always had a representation of the themes of the show in the lyrics, Turbo talked about its car theme and In Space talked about the space powers, but I think Atop The Fourth Wall Linkara put it best "it feels like its trying to tell a story, but runs out of time before that", but all and all its a good theme and the simple lyrics make it memorable.
4: Ninja Storm
Why?: Now this was the second instalment of the series under the Disney era and unlike Wild force this was a more extreme theme song with the opening featuring dirt biking, surfing and skateboarding in the visuals as these are the interests of the current rangers in the series. The heavy guitar in the background goes well with the flute and it does well to connect the ninja aspect.
3: Mighty Morphin
Why?: Well I don't really need that much of a reason, its the original theme and the reason I started this Top 10 list, there's not much to the song in the lyrics, but its still the default song whenever people think of power rangers and the lyrics that are there are memorable, which is why I'm hoping Hollywood hasn't messed this song up, "GO GO POWER RANGERS"!!!
2: In Space
Why?: In space was one of my most favourite Power Ranger series, not only did it bring the original run of the show to an end, but everything in that series echoed the theme finality and taking the steps into a larger world, this is shown in the lyrics of the In Space theme "Flying Higher Than Ever Before" and the start of the In Space theme is only enhanced by the radio voice in the background giving a countdown to the song.
1: Zeo
Why?: Zeo to me is the best power rangers theme, because as I said the original theme was good, but it didn't have much to it, but the Zeo theme definitely brought more to the original, adding a double guitar solo to the background, a rock opera build up at the beginning, paying homage and surpassing the previous generation with the lyrics "Stronger Than Before", this theme proved itself to me that it was better than all the others and truly is the way to create a successor to the original.
