Artist Appreciation: Alex Ross
Now then party people from Planet-M. Due to conflicting schedules I have decided to put up my blog on Fridays now instead of Thursdays to better plan out and keep up to date. For this week we have another segment of Artist Appreciation and today I'll be talking about a personal favourite of mine, a man who has captured the world of comics even in today with the light of the golden age with not just the pencil or the pen,but with a paint brush, today I will be talking about the artist Alex Ross.
I first saw Ross's work in one of his covers of Kirby's Genesis and at first glance I was captured by this artwork that seemed so alive that I thought it was going to leap of the page, so after that I decided to look up more of his work, such as DC's Kingdom Come, Project Super Powers and now Marvel's Second Secret Wars series and All New Amazing Spider-Man.
I even looked up his work that hasn't gone into comics such as this depiction of The Beatle's Yellow Submarine.
Alex Ross has won many awards, one of the most notable would be the Will Eisner Award. His work has inspired many artists including myself with his realistic depiction of superheroes through his artwork. What always got me with his work was the grade of the colour, the mixture of mid tones makes it look like a sunset as if in someway it were a homage to the golden age. Whenever I want to create a character that is the depiction of good I always look at Alex Ross's work so I can get the style right with in the general look of the character and I hope that his work still inspires people today with his larger than life art style. Thank You for Reading.
