Image: A creative Industry

Now today on Planet-M I decided to write a piece not apiece on what I thought of a comic, but to write a piece to praise a company that very well deserves, Image Comics.

Image sets the standard for any form of independent comic, it brought us such classics like Spawn, Savage Dragon, Gen 13, WildC.A.T., Youngblood, Saga and Witchblade.

These stories have always been the best example of an artists and a writers creative vision as they are not limited by any corporate forces and stretch to all corners of the medium, they are comics made for the fans who want to see more than the traditional superhero genre. It was for people who wanted more complex, dark or out their type of stories and truly their creators succeeded.

Image was started by Todd McFarlane, Jim Lee, Whilce Portacio, Marc Silvestri, Erik Larsen, Jim Valinteno and Rob Liefeld. They had grown sick of how artists and writers had been taken advantage of by the big comic corporations such as Marvel and DC and how they were being given less creativity with properties that they had brought back from the brink such as Spider-Man, X-Men and X-Factor (The three comic book titles by 3 of the image founders that had broken records for most sold comics in the millions), they believed that the ideas of the creators should come first other than secondary to the characters.

Image has opened up a lot to the careers of many comic book artists and writers by allowing them full creative control and ownership over their work and has allowed people to stretch of the comic book industry, so many of the fantastic series we read today wouldn't be possible if it were not for these individuals and as a aspiring comic book artists/writer I would like to say thank you. And for those who took the time to read my blog I would also like to say Thank You for reading.
