3 Reasons Why You Should Watch Steven Universe
What up party people here on Planet-M. Now these days I thought animation was done in some cases when it came to making good shows with great visuals and interesting storylines, but that was when I stumbled upon a show called Steven Universe and today I'm going to tell you the 3 reasons why you should watch this show.
The Animation:
I haven't always been a fan of digital animation in some cases mainly because I grew up on hand drawn animated shows and movies such as the work of Bruce Timm, Don Bluth and the Warner Brothers cartoons, but with Steven Universe I could see the use of fluid movement in the fusion scenes and the fights as well as the colours blended well and it didn't just use that one colour palette in episode one as the situation got worse the colours shifted to a bright red and white which give it a sense of visual story-telling.
I have to hand it to the animation crew they really have elevated the medium with the animation and proved that not everything on digital doesn't have to be detailed and the animated style isn't anime, but it is that best combination between American and Japanese style animation and it uses that to its advantage.
The Concepts:
Now with Steven universe you have a very rich universe full of great ideas to work with such as alien gems fighting in a war, weapons that manifest from a gem and of course the concept of Fusion.(And sorry in advance for using GT)
Fusion (which is two characters merging together to form a new character) is probably my favourite part of this show mainly because it reminds me of the Fusion Dance in Dragon Ball Z and these concepts work in the battle or just the everyday episodes of the show as we see Steven using his shield or Gem powers in various situations that back fire in some cases and when these concepts are brought into the battles it really adds a bit of POW to an already visually awesome show.
The Story:
The premise of the show is around Steven Universe a boy who is half gem and half human and his many adventures with the crystal gems as they protect earth in more ways than one. Now with some cartoon network shows they will just be filler, but even in the filler in this show has is a mysterious canon plot that is going on in the background, while the fun episodes are incredible and heart warming the other episodes that are pushing these mysteries are interesting to watch, it was actually one of these episodes that grabbed my attention to this show.
Not only is the show interesting because of its overall polt and action, but it has a very deep emotional side as well, i'm not going to explain what those plots are but they are very heart warming and they make you think. I haven't been this interested in the internal narrative since Calvin and Hobbs and this show truly offers it.
Well thank you for reading, Rebecca Sugar (The shows creator) should truly be proud of what she's made and I truly do recommend this show to anyone willing to watch it, Thank You for reading.
