When you usually read a manga some people begin with thinking that it might follow the same formula as Dragon Ball Z and that it is just going to be fighting with the story thrown in, but with Full Metal Alchemist the story is very well written and the fights are not the main basis of the story by which I mean the dialogue is well balanced, it’s funny when it needs to be, it’s serious when the situation calls for it and that makes it very interesting to read as Hiromu Arakawa truly has created a work of art in the manga world.
The Art:
In the first panels we see the creative art work around alchemy and how the art complements the change in form and structure of the materials in the background. The artwork around movement and joke segments are unique as well as you can see it is for action scenes and also comedic scenes.
The Characters:
The characters of the series are all unique in their own way and there was no character that I didn’t find annoying or overused in some scenes, like I said the writing was well balanced and so the characters were balanced as well, Edward and Alphonse are incredibly unique and you can see the big brother and little brother dynamics between the two despite sometimes the roles being reversed. Every character got the right amount of development and was given a fitting ending by the time the manga was finished say a few, but you will get to that when you read them.
The Story:
When reading this you will find it epic as it is a mystery, a battle against evil and many other character arcs rolled into one. And finally what will really draw you into the full metal alchemist franchise will be the world building, don’t get me wrong the story is contained within its characters, but is quite interesting to see how many other affairs are going on in the background and they do contribute to painting a picture of the world the characters live in.
